The Minneapolis-based producer and live performing artist Autokinetic debuts on DVS1's Mistress Recordings:

Mike McClure, aka Autokinetic, has been performing live electronic music since the early 90’s. Coming up alongside local legends like Freddy Fresh, Woody McBride, Paul Birken, DJ Slip, and DVS1, his approach to electronic music is unmistakably informed by his long involvement in underground electronic music culture.

"Mistress 15" opens with "Saudade", which refers to the famous untranslatable Portuguese feeling of maybe never seeing a place or person again. It embodies darkness, melancholy, and longing that comes from a happy memory but hurts at the same time. Surrogate uses Detroit sound sprinkles, authentic cultural drum and percussion elements to capture this profound yet bittersweet emotion, creating an analog dub techno grit embedded throughout the frequency spectrum that radiates a mysterious attraction. The second track "Alcantara" (named after the district in Lisbon where it was also recorded) unfolds a cool extended and jacking groove, powered by a luxurious dark marine sound in which the claps and main synth stabs appear like flexible, blue-green metal forming underwater.

On the flip, "Konsequenz" explores a dark, rough-grained sharpness with a persistent, yet swinging straight forward techno beat whose intensity and potential pace breaks down at the right moment before its urgency could build up too much steam. "Atlantico" closes the 12-inch with another puristic, dub-infused slow-burner that thrives from the muscular and sinister patterns, like witnessing a slowly building thunderstorm over a rough and stern ocean.

The digital bonus track "Radikale" is a more classic modern techno workout with fast drums and a lush dimension to the synth line and bass, concluding the package with some bold flavors – almost like walking with a strut, a bit belligerent and noisy.
